General Music

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

General Music

This is a music class guided by the Mississippi State Frameworks for high school general music.  During this course, students will use the text MUSIC! Its Role and Importance in Our Lives to explore the many aspects of music.

Grading, Assessments, and Specific Assignments used in this course:

The general curriculum of the class will be guided by the previously mentioned textbook.  Assessments will be made according to the material covered either in the book or discussed during class.  Class assignments are expected to be completed in a timely manner and the teacher reserves the right to grade vocabulary, notes, or assignments at any time necessary.  Three major projects are planned to be completed during class time in the library.  These projects will cover the topics of instruments, historical composers, and/or Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees.  Expectations and rubrics for these assignments will be given to students prior to the assignment, and students will be expected to complete these assignments during given research opportunities.

Course Content:

The text (MUSIC! Its Role and Importance in Our Lives) will guide a majority of the class discussions and assignments.  I will use various other materials to aid in lectures and listening.

Notes on the Course:

Because this course meets during an extended class time, I expect students to complete a majority of their work in class.  If students miss class/assignments, it is their responsibility to get them from me and/or make arrangements for the completion of the missed work.  I will allow and encourage bonus points to be earned using the handout entitled General Music: How to Earn Bonus PointsRemember there are NO EXEMPTIONS except for Seniors that have a 65 of above average.
