Idek

Idek is in charge of Eliezer’s work unit at the Auschwitz subcamp of Buna. He has the reputation of occasionally going angry and lashing out, but the unit he is in charge of is considered a good one to work in because the labor is light. Once, when Idek gets in one of his dark moods, he beats Eliezer for no reason. Later, Idek does the same to Shlomo, Eliezer's father. Eliezer doesn’t seem to be angry at this Idek, maybe because Idek’s violence comes from his angry mood rather than a cold, calculated plan.
