Mandatory Gear List
Mandatory Gear List
The following list of mandatory gear is required for participation in the 100km, 50km and Relay Events at the Collie River Ultra.
Please note that the Relay Event ONLY REQUIRES ITEMS DESIGNATED WITH THE **.
For the Relay Event, only the Runner on course at the time is required to carry the mandatory gear, and this gear can be swapped over to the next runner at the Transition.
The 100km and 50km participants will require all items listed below.
**Mobile Phone**
Your phone must be fully charged at start of the event. If your phone does not hold charge well, or you are concerned that it might not last the duration of your chosen distance, we recommend carrying a small battery pack which you can use to top up your phone in your pack while running! (At 62g, the Comsol 2200mAh Colorful Powerbank from Office Works is about the smallest there is!)
We recommend Telstra and going into ‘3G Network mode’. The course has excellent 3G text messaging capabilities.
We recommend that you open the Google Map onto your phone and download it so it's accessible offline.
The Emergency Plus App MUST be downloaded with GPS location enabled when using app.
The Event HQ MUST be in your Contacts. Please contact this number should you have an emergency out on the trail that you feel you cannot handle without outside assistance:
PTS Race-Day Headquarters 0423 729 949
**Race Bib Number**
Your race number MUST be worn on your front and be visible at all times over the top of your outermost layer of clothing - this includes waterproof jacket, high-visibility vest or other garment.
You should be able to purchase "Race Belts" from major sporting, running, or hiking stores. These allow you to clip your bib to the belt, which is then easily removable if you're taking off or putting on layers, or for relay change over's at the aid stations!
Do not fold, bend, cut or pierce the race number as you may damage the timing tag.
**First Aid Items**
1x Compression Bandage - minimum dimensions to be 7.5cm W x 2.3m L unstretched. Bandage Suggestion
**Space Blanket**
A Space Blanket, or Thermal Blanket, must be carried at all times. Blanket Suggestion
**Beanie / Buff**
A Buff will be provided to you in your Race Entry Pack. As a minimum, 1x Beanie or Buff must be carried at all times.
**1x Head Lamp, 1x Spare Battery Set**
Even if you expect to finish in daylight, we have to assume the worst case scenario.
After 4pm you are required to carry a head lamp and spare batteries.
A phone light does not meet our mandatory requirements. Please make sure both sets of batteries for your lights are fully charged, and will last the expected duration of the time you will be running at night.
If you only have one set of batteries for your headlamp, a second fully charged headlamp, OR a power-bank capable of recharging your headlamp will suffice in lieu of the spare battery set.
After 4pm you are required to carry a head lamp and spare batteries.
PLEASE NOTE: After 4pm you are required to CARRY Headlamp & Spare Batteries
**Hi-Vis Safety Vest**
The vest must be worn as your outer-most layer (over your pack).
After 4pm, you are required to carry your High-Vis vest. You can put it on at the checkpoint before 6pm so you don’t have to stop while you’re running.
PLEASE NOTE: After 4pm, you are required to CARRY the High-Vis vest. You are required to WEAR the High-Vis vest from 6pm.
**Water**
You’re required to have 1 Liter minimum water carrying capacity.
We recommend you carry a collapsible cup that can be filled up at aid stations.
Please note for environmental reasons we don’t have pre-filled cups. There will be water and electrolytes at transition points in 15L containers that you can use to top up your water storage, or take a drink out of with your collapsible cup.
Waterproof Bag
This can be a zip lock bag or similar.
Please place your phone, head torch and other sensitive equipment in this bag.
It's also advisable to carry a larger zip-lock bag with your thermal and a spare buff in this bag to keep it dry. You'll appreciate this if you have to wait on the trail due to any unforeseen circumstances
Weather Resistant Jacket and Thermal Long Sleeve Top
In a size that fits you.
It’s to keep you warm and dry. Even if no rain is forecast and you expect to finish before dark, be aware that if you need medical assistance and due to the remoteness of this course, it may take a while for support to reach you. Or you have a bad fall and have to walk it home or into the next aid, once the sun drops below the treeline you're likely to get cold quickly. Taped seams are highly recommended for the waterproof jacket.
Be prepared to carry this from the start. Leading up to the race day, depending on the weather forecast, the Race Organizers MAY elect to make either of these items optional. However, at this early stage, please plan on them being mandatory and equip yourself with them as such.
Drop Bags
Whilst not mandatory equipment, CRU100 & CRU50 Ultra Runners are more than welcome to have a drop bag at Transition 2 / Transition 3 / Transition 4 / CRU100 Aid Stations.
They must be clearly labeled and less than 30cm x 30cm, labelled with your name and race bib number. Ziplock Freezer bags are ideal.
For the CRU100, you’ll have access to 5 stocked Aid Stations, should you choose not to use drop bags:
Transition 2: 26km
Transition 3: 42.7km
Transition 4: 60.4km
100kmAid: 73.1km
100kmAid (Return): 94.1km
CRU50, you’ll have access to the following stocked Aid Stations:
Transition 3: 20.5km
Transition 4: 38.1km
Please go to the Legs & Aid Stations page for more information.
Please note, you can use any combination of Aid Station & Drop Bag service as you please!
Also note, any drop bag not collected following Presos will be binned 2 weeks post event.
Please reply to the post event email if you would like to arrange an alternate collection time.
Support Crews
We think they're one of the most important non-mandatory things you can have!
Before the race, try and give your support crew a little chat about things you might need or want done when you get into the aid station! It'll be less confronting for them when you arrive, and they'll be able to ensure you're refreshed and ready to go for the next leg!
Sometimes, the difference between pushing on or really considering quitting can be as simple as seeing your support crew smiling and encouraging you as you enter the Aid Station!
