Technology Careers Exploration Program

Curriculum and teacher training to introduce high schools students to careers in Information Technology

Designed and created by the Youth Career Pathways team (YCP) at Per Scholas

TCEP Mission

Expose students from overlooked communities to pathways to careers in Information Technology.

Per Scholas is a national workforce development nonprofit that provides Information Technology training and onramps to careers. We have an innovative approach to help young people design their future career pathways -- simulated tech work-based learning.

This initiative - Technology Career Exploration Program (TCEP) - partners with high schools to prepare the next generation of technologists, exposing talented and motivated students from overlooked communities to careers with impressive growth potential.

Vision for Simulated Work-Based Learning

Businesses across all sectors depend on Information Technology to manage and sustain their operations.

Students gain work-related skills, perform simulated tech tasks aligned to entry-level IT positions, and learn to navigate postsecondary training pathways.

Explore Careers

All young people need opportunities to explore careers by engaging in Work-Based Learning while in high school

Navigate Pathways

Work-Based Learning is tied to post-secondary planning as it provides an opportunity for students to navigate college and career pathways.

Simulate Real World Tasks

All students can engage in meaningful Work-Based Learning projects through simulated industry aligned tasks.

The Program

Modular Curricula

Per Scholas has developed employer-aligned tech and career development materials for schools.

  • 3 modules focused on pathways to Information Technology careers - IT Support, Computer Networking and Cybersecurity

  • Flexibly designed to integrate in any school’s program at different grade levels - tech electives, Work-Based Learning courses, career exploration electives

  • The content covers baseline technical skills and culminates in an industry-aligned project.

  • It can meet several NYS Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS) standards.

Teacher Support

Remote support on facilitating the modules.

Teachers explore technology roles in a variety of sectors to unpack the skills their students will need to access the future tech workforce. Teachers prepare to facilitate the modules through a summer Externship, followed by remote school year support.

Postsecondary Planning Toolkit

Per Scholas provides school counselors with information about tech careers, local training programs and resources that can surface students’ interest and aptitude for tech careers.

This body of resources helps schools build a greater repertoire of tools for students and families to make informed post secondary choices.

The Curricula

Student Surveys

We want to measure the impact of our materials on students’ knowledge of careers in tech. Administering pre- and post- module surveys to your students allows us to assess the value of our modules and iterate to make improvements to the curriculum and training.

Student Pre-Survey

To be administer by the teacher before students experience any other materials from this program

Student Post-Survey

To be administer by the teacher after students experience all parts of this program and curricula taught in class
