Tips and Resources!
Here are a few ways to easily incorporate reading into your child's life every day:
Use the library as a resource:
Find seasonal books to keep your child engaged.
Library cards are free! Make it a fun day by stopping by the library and picking a book to read together outside.
The library has a great selection of audio books that are wonderful for car rides or at home.
Partner read with your child- You read one page, and have your child read the next.
Use environmental print:
Have your child read the menu at a restaurant or signs on the road.
Have your child write your grocery list with you.
Make it multi-sensory , especially for younger children. The more senses your child uses, the better they will remember what they are learning. For example:
Use puppets or stuffed animals while reading.
Write letters or words in sand, sugar, salt, or shaving cream.
Use magnetic letters or letter blocks to build words.
Have books stored everywhere! Put them in the car and in all rooms of the house, especially play areas.
Encourage your child to read for 20 minutes each day!
