Parent access codes are used to link a FREE parent-created Schoology account to their learner within the Schoology system. This is a one-time process for the career of the learner; this is not a per-course connection.
*You'll know a parent is connected if you enter your Course's member section and a learner has a name or names in grey text below their own as shown in the picture below for Test Stu.
Once connected, a parent can view any content their learner interacts with and can be communicated with via Schoology courses through the steps below.

Home-to-School communication is critical for parent buy-in. Course updates in Schoology are one way that Schoology help that home-to-school connection.
Use cases for Updates are daily or weekly agendas, course announcements, and updates on events that are relevant to all parents and learners alike.
Check out the tutorial to see how to use Updates.
*For those migrating from Dojo, this is like the Stories section of that application.
* Course Updates only produce mobile notifications for those directly enrolled in courses ie Course Admin and learners. They are viewable to all on the Schoology Dashboard.
We all know it's the little things that make a big difference and this is one of those little things that you may have been working around that will make life a little easier.

* Course Updates only produce mobile notifications for those directly enrolled in courses ie Course Admin and learners. They are viewable to all on the Schoology Dashboard.
Course updates generate a push notification for direct members of a course, i.e. course admin or students inside of course sections. Currently parents are not direct members of a course, which is why they are not receiving notifications or able to interact with your updates.
· Parents currently receive a digest/summary of course updates, either weekly or daily based on the preference they set on their account for each of their learners.
· If you want parents to receive regular push notifications when you make course updates, you are able to create a section within your existing course for parents. You will find those steps here.
· Parents connected to learners have been added to our Pequea Valley Schoology Directory. In the member’s section of a course, you can see their names in grey underneath learner names.
Course updates can be sent to only particular sections, such as the Parent section.
Parents and learner alike that have the mobile app with push notifications turned on can expect this type of notification for all private and group messages.
Learners enrolled within a Schoology course will receive this type of push notificaiton when a course update is posted.
From your Course or Group, select Members, then click the gear to the right of the learner name. Choose Send Message or Message Parents to open the message editor for quick and easy communication!
You can also always click the envelope from the top navigation in Schoology, New Message, then type a learner's name to start a Schoology message to them.
* Private and Group messages produce mobile notifications.
Ever need to email all the learners in a Schoology but for one reason or another want to steer away from the Updates section? Well, you're in luck, you can use Course Options and Group Options to accomplish just that!
