(Instrument Shaped Objects)
Please read the article attached before buying or renting an instrument. The biggest mistake I see parents make while obtaining an instrument is not talking to their Band Director first. Instrument repairs can drive up the cost of an instrument significantly over the life of it's use. It's much cheaper to pay a little more up front than to have to pay for repairs throughout the life of an instrument's use.
