Time Management Strategies for Students

Time Management Suggestions

Managing time is a skill that many people struggle with, not just kids, but adults too! While a missed deadline every now and then is to be expected, chronically turning work in late or not at all has a negative affect on the psyche of the person, as well as the grade in the class.

Listed below are some tools and strategies to help you or your student manage their time.

This video addresses 4 main strategies:

  1. Create a good workspace for yourself, not your bed. Give yourself space to have your device, your materials, and is free as possible from distractions. Save the Netflix for later!

  2. Managing time by using visual schedules, checklists, or planners. Prioritize each assignment. Break down each assignment into smaller chunks to make the work manageable. Use a timer to pace yourself as your work.

  3. Take breaks. Give yourself some time away from the work. Schedule them in but make sure it's not an all day break. Use that timer.

  4. Use your resources! Reach out to your teacher and counselor and friends to help you. Ask questions of your teacher, they want to help.

Create a daily routine which includes getting up, dressed, and eating at scheduled times.

Your Pequannock Planner

This is a great tool where you can write down your assignments, appointments, work schedule, or extra-curricular events.

Using the Google Tools

Google Classroom is a great tool and something all of your teachers are using, but it can be completely overwhelming. There are some built in tools in Google Classroom that can help you see what your assignments are, what's due and when, and what's been graded or is still missing.

Check out this brief video that will show you where to find this too.

Using the Google Calendar function will allow you to see all of your assignments on a Google Calendar. This would be good for those who love the digital calendar on their phones, Chromebooks, or other device.

If you aren't good with digital calendars, use a paper one or your Pequannock planner to write down your due dates.

Say NO to the cell phone!

We LOVE our cell phones. They are great! But, they are such a distraction for everyone - man, woman, adult, kid, everyone!

Leave your cell phone off or on Do Not Disturb mode. Put it away where you can't see and hear it.

On your break, then look at your phone and respond to messages, Instrgram, Tik Tok, whatever.

Say NO to Netflix & YouTube!

We also love Netflix. There's so much to see. But during school, it's a distraction. Save your favorite program for later.

This goes for YouTube too!
