College Interviews: Practice Questions and Strategies
Tips for Interviewing:
Have a conversation! You are there to show them who you are, so try not to rehearse too much.
Ask questions at the end. Do your research and show colleges that you are prepared and eager to learn about their institution.
Be yourself and be confident. The college admissions counselors want to know you and what makes you a great candidate for that school.
Dress appropriately! Business attire will be great. We do not suggest wearing jeans, sweatpants, flip flops, etc.
Make eye contact with the interviewer.
Practice interviewing with a family member, friend, or teacher... practice can help you get comfortable in that setting!
Before your Interview:
Make the interview appointment and mark it on your calendar so you don't forget!
Research the college so you are prepared.
Make notes about your accomplishments, why you want to attend that school, and your academic background.
Prepare questions to ask the interviewer.
Choose an outfit beforehand, so no surprises arise.
Gather any documents from your counselor.
After your Interview:
Take a business card from the admissions counselor who interviewed you.
Use the information on the card to send a thank you email to the admissions counselor who interviewed you. It will not only make you stand out, but it will also be a great skill to use for the rest of your life.
