The history major is designed to help students understand the complex factors that have created the world as we know it today. Students develop skills in reading, research, writing, evaluation of texts, critical thinking, supporting an argument, and understanding of those different from themselves. The history major and minor provide a valuable background for many careers, including government service, law, education, library and archival work, business, medicine, and journalism.
The History Program is part of the Humanities/Teacher Education Division of Seaver College. It grants a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and also offers a minor in History. It also offers a required general education course and many courses that are required or electives in other programs, such as International Studies, Religion, Sustainability, Women’s Studies, and Liberal Arts for Education. The History program has been part of Seaver College from its inception.
Quality Assurance: Each degree program should employ sufficient faculty such that there is a capacity to design and deliver the curriculum (CFR 2.5). Curriculum design and implementation should involve evaluation, improvement, and promotion of student learning and success (CFR 2.5). Thus, faculty are responsible to exercise effective academic leadership on a consistent basis to ensure that the program's quality and educational purposes are upheld (CFR 2.6). Student support and co-curricular programs and services of sufficient nature, scope, and capacity go hand-in-hand with the degree programs for promoting students' academic, personal, and professional development (CFR 2.13). - WSCUC 2023 Handbook, Standard 2
