During the seniors' last day of school, we would like to feature a senior slideshow to commemorate the memories of their time at Penn-Trafford. Our goal is to feature every single senior in this slideshow; however, to meet this goal, we need your help collecting school-appropriate photos from elementary, middle, and high school years. Please submit photos by Friday, April 24. See the Senior Slideshow Letter for more information.
Yearbooks will be distributed to all seniors who preordered on Friday, May 15. Seniors should report to the audion lobby on Friday, May 15 before 10:00 am to pick up their yearbooks. Seniors who purchased a personalized yearbook will receive a purple personalization slip from their homeroom teacher. We ask that students bring this slip with them to pick up their personalized book.
Extra yearbooks will also be on sale, first come, first served. Any senior wishing to purchase an extra yearbook must bring $110 in exact cash to the audion lobby before 10:00 am on Friday, May 15.
Upon receiving your yearbook, please note:
Before writing anything in your personal copy of the yearbook, please CHECK CAREFULLY that your book has no printing flaws such as blank/missing, upside-down or wrinkled pages. If you discover concerns in your book, please bring it to room 138 before you write in it. Once you have written in the book, IT’S YOURS TO KEEP!
Write your name in the book so it can be easily identified and is better protected against theft. We cannot replace lost or stolen yearbooks.
Please understand that our staff tried to make sure that we have created an inclusive yearbook with as few mistakes as possible, and we apologize for any mistakes you may find. Please know that the yearbook is a student-produced publication and a learning experience for the students who compile the photos, stories, and content. There is no malicious intent, nor lack of care taken by the yearbook students in producing the yearbook. The yearbook staff worked very hard on the yearbook and is proud of what they accomplished.
The faculty and administration of Penn-Trafford School District believe that a graduation project challenges students to go beyond what is learned in the regular high school curriculum. The graduation project is a learning process with student-centered research revolving around a career of interest and ending with a formal presentation. The goals of the graduation project include: stretching the mind and extending learning in an area of interest related to a career; demonstrating and improving academic skills in thinking, organizing, creating, researching, writing and presenting; promoting life skills such as independent problem-solving, time management, networking and decision–making skills; and becoming more resourceful and sharing one’s learning. All projects are evaluated by the teacher who assists students in applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating information, and ultimately communicating significant knowledge and understanding.
*Students must pass all components of the Senior Research Project to be eligible for graduation from Penn-Trafford High School.
SENIOR PROJECT REQUIREMENTS: Senior students should be able to produce a culminating project that requires them to use skills and research methods they’ve learned during their educational career. By requiring them to conduct thorough research, produce a Works Cited page, compose an MLA-formatted paper, and job shadow/interview a professional in their potential field, students should be able to exemplify strong public speaking skills when delivering their final presentation to the class.
Project Proposal: Students will compose a one-page research proposal paper that details the research goal, interest or connection to topic, “cutting-edge” aspects, and overall plan for potential interviewees and job shadowing opportunities. Students must submit this proposal for teacher approval before beginning their research. Students will also present their proposals to the class/teacher for evaluation, analysis, and constructive criticism.
College-Style MLA-Formatted Annotated Bibliography: Students must use online databases to locate, evaluate, and justify source credibility and relevance by composing a formal MLA-formatted annotated bibliography.
Interview with an Expert: Students must prepare open-ended questions and conduct at least one interview with an expert on the topic as part of their primary research for this project. Students must show evidence of completion by providing name of interviewee and a description of his/her credentials or expertise (job title, college degrees/training, work experience, etc.), contact information (phone number and/or email address), revised interview questions, and interview results, which can be in the form of handwritten or typed notes from a phone or personal interview, printed email response, or audio/video recording (as long as interviewee permits it).
Job Shadowing and Work-Based Experience (optional): Students have the opportunity to complete a work-based experience as part of the research project. This can be a job shadowing experience, mentored project, volunteer work, etc.
Formal MLA-Formatted Paper with Works Cited: Students will demonstrate their understanding of online resources by accurately paraphrasing the text. Students should be able to read and synthesize factual information relevant to their research topic. Students will organize paraphrased and quoted material from credible sources to produce a formal paper with MLA citations and Works Cited. Students will develop an introduction with a thesis and a summative conclusion.
Powerpoint/Google Slides Presentation: Students will organize research findings from online sources and work-based experience into a coherent presentation to the class and teacher. Students will demonstrate effective public speaking skills.
The Commencement Ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 21 at 6:30 pm. JN Photos will take pictures of each student receiving their diploma. Details to come.
