Learning another language provides opportunities for face-to-face communication, cognitive growth, and cultural exploration - skills which are vital to everyday life, whether communicating in the language studied or in English.
We guide our students through the process of learning the language, and relying on AI prevents the development of these skills, and - because AI is not able to take into account a student’s skill level - it is obvious when students are using expressions and grammar that they have not yet learned in the classroom.
For this reason, the use of Generative AI in this class is strictly prohibited (Red/Level 0 per district policy) unless the teacher specifies otherwise on an individual assignment. This includes the use of digital translators. A student who is suspected of violating academic integrity may be asked to create a spontaneous sample of their work at the teacher’s discretion. If a student is found to have violated this policy, a discipline referral can be submitted and the student will receive a 0 on the assignment.
