Mr. Eshleman has been teaching at Penn Manor since 2011. He earned a BA in Spanish and Secondary Education from Eastern Mennonite University and is certified to teach Spanish and ESL. He has studied Spanish in Guatemala, the Dominican Republic and Spain. He has also lived for four years in Honduras.
He is originally from Manheim and graduated from Lancaster Mennonite High School. He chose to teach because he enjoys working with young people.
When he is not teaching he enjoys traveling with his wife and children in Central America or fishing on the Susquehanna River.
Mrs. Klingaman attended Central Columbia High School in Bloomsburg, Millersville University, and Bloomsburg University. She has been at Penn Manor since 2001.
Mrs. Klingaman has been studying French since 8th grade. Her teacher was excellent, and inspired her to continue studying languages. She says, “I love seeing students’ excitement when they make real-life connections using another language.”
Mrs. Klingaman loves reading, camping and traveling. Her travel experiences include numerous trips to France and Quebec and a 6-week stay in Spain.
Angelika Koerner has attended Johannes Gutenberg Universität in Mainz, Millersville University, and Wilkes University and is currently working toward an ELP certification at Eastern Mennonite University.
She grew up in Germany and Austria, but has lived in the Lancaster area since 1994 with her husband and children. She’s taught languages since 1996, teaching middle and high school French, Latin and German. Mrs. Koerner started at Penn Manor in 2018.
“Learning other cultures and languages has been an ongoing interest since childhood. I grew up in two cultures, as the child of an immigrant and the grandchild of a refugee. Over the decades, I’ve enjoyed staying in touch with friends and acquaintances who live in or come from various cultures. Languages, cultures and societies fascinate me, because they are intricate systems that exist in an amazing variety.”

Mrs. Mintzer is from West Lawn, PA. She attended Wilson High School and Millersville University where she earned a BSE in Spanish. She has a Master’s Equivalency Certificate and has taught at Penn Manor since 1994.
Mrs. Mintzer chose to be a teacher because she has always loved school and always wanted to be a teacher. “When I was in elementary school, I used to stop into my grandfather’s Chemistry class on my way home from school. He taught at Wilson HS, and classroom was right by the end of a hallway, and I walked by it every day!” After she had the opportunity to travel to Spain in high school, she decided that being a Spanish teacher was the right choice for her. In 1992 she traveled again to Spain for a semester abroad in Valencia.
Mrs. Mintzer’s favorite things about teaching: “I like that teaching Spanish allows me to teach about lots of topics, as well as skills: reading short stories in Spanish, modern Art (Salvador Dalí and Pablo Picasso are my favorites), and even grammar!”
Mrs. Mintzer also enjoys theatre, has been involved in Penn Manor Theatre since 1994 and serves as Thespian Troupe Director.
Mrs. Mintzer’s family: Husband, three sons, a daughter-in-law and two dogs!
Mrs. Rodriguez is from Quarryville, PA. She attended Lancaster Mennonite High School, Grove City College, and Millersville University. She has taught at Penn Manor since 2005.
Her favorite things about teaching are her students and getting to speak Spanish every day. She has taken short-term trips to Mexico, Spain, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic. She would love someday to visit all 21 Spanish-speaking countries.
Frau Smith attended Friedrich Rückert Gymnasium (Ebern, Germany), Otto Friedrich Universität (Bamberg, Germany), and Millersville University.
She says, “I chose to become a teacher because I enjoy being around young people. I love seeing students learn. I love to help students believe in themselves and their academic skills, and watch them succeed. I always remember what helped me when I was a student and I try to include these techniques in my classroom. It gives me great pride to help shape students into well rounded individuals.”
Frau Smith has taught at Penn Manor since 2004. She chose to teach German “because I am German. I grew up in Germany and moved to America when I was 21 years old. When growing up in Germany, I wanted to become an English teacher. When I came to America I thought it would be a great idea to share my language, culture, experience, and life stories with American students – so I became a German teacher.”
Frau Smith enjoys reading, traveling, the outdoors, shopping, and spending time with friends and family.
Her travel experiences include trips to Italy, Poland, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Austria, France, Spain, England, Belgium, Canada, America. Growing up in Europe gave her the great opportunity to travel to many places, since the surrounding countries are relatively close by. Her future goal is to explore America further.
Frau Smith is the Gapp student exchange advisor for PMHS. Students travel to Germany every other year.
