Our solution is to create a sunscreen without coral-damaging chemicals. Some possible effects of the chemicals include DNA damage, coral bleaching, and abnormal skeletal growth in younger coral as mentioned in the previous slide. Using only naturally SPF preventing ingredients such as carrot seed oil, beeswax, raspberry seed oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, almond oil, and coconut oil.Â
Carrot seed oil and raspberry seed oil have much higher SPF than the other ingredients, with carrot seed oil going up to 40 SPF, and raspberry seed oil going up to 50. Adding shea butter to your skin before applying sunscreen can create a thin layer that adds on to the level of sun protection. Shea butter has an SPF of around 3 or 4, and can also help with skin rash or eczema.
