Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship

• High school graduates are not eligible to apply.

Thomas Wolfe Scholarship

Applicants must complete two steps:

• • • an application to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill by October 15, 2020

    • an application to the Thomas Wolfe Scholarship by November 15, 2020

The application process requires the submission of up to fifty (50) pages in prose, forty (40) pages in poetry, or sixty (60) in play writing, in English. Students submitting work in MULTIPLE GENRES should submit between 50-60 pages of original work. In addition to completing the application, candidates will submit a five-hundred-word personal essay entitled “Why I Write.”

NC Hispanic College Fund

Deadline: December 15th, 2020

Award: Between $500-$2,500

The North Carolina Hispanic College Fund awards annual scholarships worth between $500 and $2,500 to help students who desire to attend college pay for their education. Scholarships recipients are recent graduates of North Carolina high schools who are of Hispanic/Latino background. Recipients of a NC Hispanic College Fund scholarship must enroll in a degree program at a community college or a 2 or 4 year college/university and be committed to public service and community development.

Selection Criteria

• Graduate of a NC high school within the past 2 years

• A four-year cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale

• 2 letters of recommendation from a high school teacher, principal, pastor, employer, or other community leaders

• An official high school transcript

• Personal statement (500 words)

Additional Considerations

Preference will be given to foreign-born applicants or the native born children of foreign-born parents. Recipients will be chosen based on: family economic need, community involvement, academic achievement, volunteerism and leadership.

Ron Brown Scholar Program

Award: $40,000 ($10,000 each year)

The Ron Brown Scholarship honors the legacy of Ronald H. Brown through a selective scholarship program that advances higher education for community-minded and intellectually gifted African Americans. RBSP competitively awards Ron Brown Scholars four-year $40,000 scholarships ($10,000 each year) to the most talented and economically-challenged high school seniors who demonstrate a keen interest in public service, community engagement, business entrepreneurship and global citizenship. Recipients may use the renewable scholarships to attend an accredited four-year college or university of their choice within the U.S. Ron Brown scholarships are not limited to any specific field or career objective and may be used to pursue any academic discipline. Teaching Fellows Scholarship

Award: Receive up to $4,125 per semester for up to eight semesters

Five North Carolina schools are now hosting Teaching Fellows: Elon, Meredith, UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC-Charlotte, and NC State! Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria to be considered for a Teaching Fellows award:

• • • A North Carolina high school senior applying to an educator preparation program at one of the five Teaching Fellows partner institutions

    • High school applicants or applicants with fewer than 24 hours of college credit must have a minimum unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 and must submit an ACT and/or SAT

    • Applicants with more than 24 hours of college credit must have a minimum of a 2.7 cumulative GPA.

    • Be willing to teach in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) or special education licensure area in a North Carolina public school, traditional or charter.

NC Cattlemen’s Foundation Scholarship

Deadline: January 15, 2021

Award: up to $3,000

This scholarship seeks to recognize and provide financial assistance to students with an interest in agriculture; a background, interest in or career plans with the cattle industry will receive additional consideration in review of applications. The scholarships are funded by earnings on donations to the North Carolina Cattlemen's Foundation, which has been significantly supported by cattle producers in the state. Scholarships will be awarded to students who are residents of North Carolina, although college enrollment may be in another state. Applicants must provide a list of at least three references and submit a short photo essay that is no more than 2 pages.

Eligibility Requirements:

1. Resident of North Carolina

2. Full time student in undergraduate or graduate program (different applications will be used for undergraduate and graduate scholarships).

3. Interest and/or career plans in agriculture, with additional recognition for interest and/or career plans related to the cattle industry. NCCF will give priority for awards to students whole field of study is related to some area of agriculture, particularly the cattle industry.

Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship

The JRF scholarship is awarded to outstanding high school graduates who plan to earn a baccalaureate degree from an accredited, four-year college or university. Once chosen from a national, selective application process, Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholars receive a generous four-year grant to attend the undergraduate school of their choice and enroll in JRF’s celebrated “42 Strategies for Success Curriculum”. This four-year program guides JRF Scholars to effectively navigate their college environments, explore career options, develop leadership skills, and embrace a commitment to service. The program also promotes the values and character traits embodied in the heroic life of the Foundation’s namesake, encouraging Scholars to positively impact the lives of others.

The Clary Medal, made possible through the generosity of the Eddie and Jo Allison Smith Family Foundation, recognizes outstanding high school student-athletes annually in memory of Wilburn C. Clary.

Willie Bradshaw Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Award: Regional awards - $750.00, State awards - $1.000.00 (selected from the pool of 16 regional award recipients)

This scholarship, given in memory of Willie Bradshaw, provides financial support to outstanding African American, American Indian/Alaska Native and/or Asian Pacific Islander American, or Hispanic American student-athletes participating on sanctioned varsity teams at North Carolina High School Athletic Association member schools who demonstrate financial need based on the Free Financial Aid Statement (FAFSA) and the Student Aid Report (SAR) generated by the FAFSA.

Eligibility Requirements:

1. Senior, male or female high school varsity athlete participating on a sanctioned team at an NCHSAA member high school.

2. An African American, *American Indian/Alaska Native, **Asian & Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American.

4. Able to demonstrate leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular and/or other activities.

5. Documented and verifiable clean disciplinary record during his/her high school/athletic participation.

African American Network-Carolinas Scholarship

This scholarship fund stems from the African American Network, which is a resource group of African American employees at Duke Energy. As a part of its mission, the African American Network--Carolina Chapter provides scholarships to college-bound students from North and South Carolina who are pursuing major in engineering, math, science, computer science, accounting, finance, or business administration.

SECU Foundation People Helping People Scholarship

Award: $10,000 ($1,250 for up to eight semesters)

SECU Foundation established the People Helping People four-year scholarship program to help North Carolina public high school students attend college. Each of the 115 North Carolina Local Education Agencies (LEAs)/School Districts will receive a minimum of one scholarship valued at $10,000 payable at $1,250 for up to eight consecutive semesters for a senior to attend one of the 16 constituent campuses of the University of North Carolina System.

The SECU Foundation People Helping People Scholarship is only available to graduating public high school seniors who are either current members of State Employees’ Credit Union (“SECU”) or the child of a parent/guardian who is a member of SECU at the time of application. Membership eligibility does not include Local Government Federal Credit Union or NC Press Association Credit Union members. Preference will be given to students whose parents or guardians and family members are public sector employees (state, local or federal government; public health; public education) who live and work in North Carolina. Additionally, preference will be given to those majoring in public service degree programs (such as Public Health, Education, Public Administration, and Public Policy). While not a requirement, identification of a financial need, as determined by submissions on of a Free Application for Federal student Aid (FAFSA), will be taken into consideration by the selection committee. Scholarship recipients in good academic standing will be able to receive the scholarship up to a maximum of eight (8) consecutive semesters at the same university.

NCRLA's Hospitality Education Foundation Scholarship

Each year, the North Carolina Restaurant & Lodging Association’s philanthropic arm, the North Carolina Hospitality Education Foundation (NC HEF), awards a wide variety of scholarships to students, as well as vital grant funding to educators, across the state of North Carolina. UNCF STEM Scholars Program

The UNCF STEM Scholars Program is a 10-year initiative designed to identify and provide scholarship and academic support for a total of 500 talented African American high school students who aspire to earn STEM degrees and to pursue careers in STEM fields.

The program enables highly capable young people to pursue undergraduate STEM majors and prepares them for successful careers in a variety of STEM professions. The application is open for high school seniors who are entering college as first-time freshmen in Fall 2019.

The Camp Lejeune Officers’ Spouses’ Club awards scholarships to qualified seniors (graduating in the spring of 2021) and spouses based on academic excellence, merit and service. Since part of the OSC’s mission is to use our time, talents and energy to enhance the Camp LeJeune community, we award students and spouses who are doing the same for their communities.

Eligibility Requirements:

The applicant must have a sponsor (of ANY military rank or service) and they must meet one of the criteria below:

• • 1. Active duty military personnel assigned to MCB Camp Lejeune, a tenant unit aboard Camp Lejeune, Camp Johnson, Camp Geiger, or MCAS New River.

    2. Deceased military personnel whose last active duty station was one of the above locations.

The Cape Fear Post of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) intends to award a cash scholarship to one outstanding area high school senior that is planning to pursue an engineering or architecture degree in college. The Cape Fear Post will award one four-year college scholarship valued at $4,000 made in four equal $1,000 annual increments.

NCCF Disaster Relief and Resilience Scholarship

Eligible students are attending or planning to attend an institution of higher learning in the immediately following year and resided in areas impacted by Hurricanes Florence or Matthew.

The Patsy Howard Memorial Scholarship is open to any Duplin or Pender County female student. A one time scholarship (non-renewable) in the amount of $500 will be awarded.

Pender Education Partnership

Award : one $1000 and one $500

The Pender Education Partnership is a nonprofit organization established to support the students and staff of Pender County Schools. Its mission is to enhance innovative, educational opportunities for the students of Pender County Schools by collaborating with educators, parents, businesses and the greater community.

Criteria for Eligibility: Applicant must be a senior in the Duplin County School System and/or Pender High School/ Pender Early College districts, and planning to attend a college or university and currently have a GPA of 2.75 or above.

• • A brief synopsis of who you are and your attributes (personal, school, and community), This synopsis is not counted in the essay word count.

  • Answer the essay question. The essay must be typed and double spaced with 500 to 650 words.

  • Submit a certified transcript and a photo.

  • Finally, you will mail on or before March 31, 2020 to Duplin County Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., P.O. Box 762, Kenansville, N.C. 28398. The packet must be postmarked by March 31, 2020.

The NC Safewater Fund Scholarship/Carol Bond Scholarship

Deadline: April (TBD) 2021

Award: $2,000

Eligibility Requirements:

• • Student must be pursuing a degree in a curriculum that emphasizes the protection of public health by providing healthful drinking water and/or protecting the quality and integrity of the water environment at an institution of higher education located in North Carolina during the 2019-2020 academic year.

  • Student must maintain a GPA of 3.0.

  • Student must be a United States citizen.

  • Once the scholarship is awarded to a student, they are eligible to receive it annually for a maximum of 4 years to complete their undergraduate degree and/or for a maximum of 2 years to complete their graduate degree as long as they continue to meet the qualifications stipulated in the initial award.

Cape Fear Community College Merit Scholarship

Award: $2,600 for his/her first year at CFCC

The CFCC Foundation Board of Directors awards merit scholarships annually to deserving New Hanover and Pender County high school seniors who exhibit academic excellence. Every curriculum program of study is eligible.

The purpose of the NC Blueberry Festival Association Essay Scholarship is to provide post high school academic scholarships to North Carolina students. Award of scholarships will be based on the following criteria and requirements:

• 1. Senior in secondary education.

  2. Reside or attend school in one of the following counties in North Carolina: Bladen, Duplin, New Hanover, Pender, or Sampson.

  3. Write and submit an essay on the provided topic.

  4. Provide a list of your past and present community involvement activities.

  5. Reflection Statement

  6. Acceptance into an accredited two- or four-year college or university.

  7. Full-time student status (minimum of 12 credit hours/semester).

J.B. Lewis Memorial Scholarship Application

The J.B. Lewis Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year by the Burgaw Rotary Club to a graduating senior from Pender High School or Heide Trask High School who will be attending a local community college to pursue an education in technical or vocational training. ROCAME Scholarship

Award: $1,000

The organization plans to award scholarships to outstanding and underrepresented high school seniors in ROCAME or a STEM field and from underserved communities in Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover, and Pender counties, pursuing higher education in the field of science, technology, engineering, and math.

Eligibility Criteria:

Students must meet the following criteria in order to apply for the scholarship:

o Graduating high school senior

o 3.0 or greater GPA

o Planning to major in a STEM discipline (science, technology, engineering, math).

o Accepted into an accredited college or university with an associated discipline

o Provide evidence of participation in one or more ROCAME events if applicable (Jamboree, Electrogames/Robotics Training, 40th Anniversary Celebration, ROCAME field trips, ROCAME service projects, etc.) and/or participation in local, regional or state STEM events (science/math fairs, robotics, Science Olympiad, etc).

Applicants must submit a complete application package. The application will not be

Eight $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to high school seniors who plan to attend an accredited university, college, community college, or 2 year vocational/technical school.

Kitty Croom Memorial Scholarship Endowment

For over ten years Kitty E. Croom was employed at Pender High School. She was a strong advocate of education with a desire for children with financial need to be able to attend college. She also felt it important that after college students return to southeastern North Carolina to enrich the area with what they had learned. The Kitty E. Croom Memorial Scholarship was established in the 2004-2005 school year to support the beliefs of Mrs. Croom. The $2500 per year scholarship award is renewable contingent upon the student remaining in good standing with the institution of higher learning and maintaining a 2.5 grade point average. Only Pender High School students may apply for this scholarship.
