Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship

Thomas Wolfe Scholarship

Applicants must complete two steps:

an application to the Thomas Wolfe Scholarship by November 15, 2020
The application process requires the submission of up to fifty (50) pages in prose, forty (40) pages in poetry, or sixty (60) in play writing, in English. Students submitting work in MULTIPLE GENRES should submit between 50-60 pages of original work. In addition to completing the application, candidates will submit a five-hundred-word personal essay entitled “Why I Write.”

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation College Scholarship

The Cooke College Scholarship Program is an undergraduate scholarship program available to high-achieving high school seniors with financial need who seek to attend and graduate from the nation's best four-year colleges and universities.
Each award is intended to cover a significant share of the student’s educational experience – including tuition, living expenses, books and required fees. Awards vary by individual, based on the cost of tuition as well as other grants or scholarships they may receive. This highly competitive scholarship includes:

NC Hispanic College Fund

Award: Between $500-$2,500
The North Carolina Hispanic College Fund awards annual scholarships worth between $500 and $2,500 to help students who desire to attend college pay for their education. Scholarships recipients are recent graduates of North Carolina high schools who are of Hispanic/Latino background. Recipients of a NC Hispanic College Fund scholarship must enroll in a degree program at a community college or a 2 or 4 year college/university and be committed to public service and community development.
Selection Criteria
Graduate of a NC high school within the past 2 years
A four-year cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale
2 letters of recommendation from a high school teacher, principal, pastor, employer, or other community leaders

Teaching Fellows Scholarship

Award: Receive up to $4,125 per semester for up to eight semesters
Five North Carolina schools are now hosting Teaching Fellows: Elon, Meredith, UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC-Charlotte, and NC State! Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria to be considered for a Teaching Fellows award:
A North Carolina high school senior applying to an educator preparation program at one of the five Teaching Fellows partner institutions
High school applicants or applicants with fewer than 24 hours of college credit must have a minimum unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 and must submit an ACT and/or SAT
Applicants with more than 24 hours of college credit must have a minimum of a 2.7 cumulative GPA.
Be willing to teach in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) or special education licensure area in a North Carolina public school, traditional or charter.

NC Cattlemen’s Foundation Scholarship

Award: up to $3,000
This scholarship seeks to recognize and provide financial assistance to students with an interest in agriculture; a background, interest in or career plans with the cattle industry will receive additional consideration in review of applications. The scholarships are funded by earnings on donations to the North Carolina Cattlemen's Foundation, which has been significantly supported by cattle producers in the state. Scholarships will be awarded to students who are residents of North Carolina, although college enrollment may be in another state. Applicants must provide a list of at least three references and submit a short photo essay that is no more than 2 pages.

The JRF scholarship is awarded to outstanding high school graduates who plan to earn a baccalaureate degree from an accredited, four-year college or university. Once chosen from a national, selective application process, Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholars receive a generous four-year grant to attend the undergraduate school of their choice and enroll in JRF’s celebrated “42 Strategies for Success Curriculum”. The Clary Medal, made possible through the generosity of the Eddie and Jo Allison Smith Family Foundation, recognizes outstanding high school student-athletes annually in memory of Wilburn C. Clary.
Eligibility Requirements:
Male or female, senior student-athlete participating on two (2) or more different varsity, NCHSAA sanctioned athletic teams during his/her high school career and must be on an athletic team during senior year.

SECU Foundation People Helping People Scholarship

Award: $10,000 ($1,250 for up to eight semesters)
SECU Foundation established the People Helping People four-year scholarship program to help North Carolina public high school students attend college. Each of the 115 North Carolina Local Education Agencies (LEAs)/School Districts will receive a minimum of one scholarship valued at $10,000 payable at $1,250 for up to eight consecutive semesters for a senior to attend one of the 16 constituent campuses of the University of North Carolina System.
The SECU Foundation People Helping People Scholarship is only available to graduating public high school seniors who are either current members of State Employees’ Credit Union (“SECU”) or the child of a parent/guardian who is a member of SECU at the time of application. Membership eligibility does not include Local Government Federal Credit Union or NC Press Association Credit Union members. Preference will be given to students whose parents or guardians and family members are public sector employees (state, local or federal government; public health; public education) who live and work in North Carolina. Additionally, preference will be given to those majoring in public service degree programs (such as Public Health, Education, Public Administration, and Public Policy). While not a requirement, identification of a financial need, as determined by submissions on of a Free Application for Federal student Aid (FAFSA), will be taken into consideration by the selection committee. Scholarship recipients in good academic standing will be able to receive the scholarship up to a maximum of eight (8) consecutive semesters at the same university.

NCRLA's Hospitality Education Foundation Scholarship

Each year, the North Carolina Restaurant & Lodging Association’s philanthropic arm, the North Carolina Hospitality Education Foundation (NC HEF), awards a wide variety of scholarships to students, as well as vital grant funding to educators, across the state of North Carolina. UNCF STEM Scholars Program

The UNCF STEM Scholars Program is a 10-year initiative designed to identify and provide scholarship and academic support for a total of 500 talented African American high school students who aspire to earn STEM degrees and to pursue careers in STEM fields.

The NC Safewater Fund Scholarship/Carol Bond Scholarship

Award: $2,000
Eligibility Requirements:
Student must be pursuing a degree in a curriculum that emphasizes the protection of public health by providing healthful drinking water and/or protecting the quality and integrity of the water environment at an institution of higher education located in North Carolina during the 2019-2020 academic year.
Student must maintain a GPA of 3.0.
Student must be a United States citizen.
Once the scholarship is awarded to a student, they are eligible to receive it annually for a maximum of 4 years to complete their undergraduate degree and/or for a maximum of 2 years to complete their graduate degree as long as they continue to meet the qualifications stipulated in the initial award.

For over ten years Kitty E. Croom was employed at Pender High School. She was a strong advocate of education with a desire for children with financial need to be able to attend college. Croom Memorial Scholarship was established in the 2004-2005 school year to support the beliefs of Mrs. Croom.
