Kenan Fellows: I was selected to join the ranks of Kenan Fellows for the 2014-2015 Year. This gave me the opportunity to create a partnership between my classroom and the scientists at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences through the Students Discover grant. This program has been a fantastic opportunity for my students and myself. We are doing real science investigations with real scientists! To find out more about Kenan Fellows you can visit it at: http://kenanfellows.org/ and our Natural Science Museum work at Your Wildlife - Students Discover found at: http://studentsdiscover.org/. My student's research has been a part of scientific research by Dr. Julia Stevens of the North Carolina Museum of Sciences, and was featured at the 100th Ecological Society of America Conference in Baltimore, Maryland. I had the privilege to present our middle school student's work in research to a community of scientists from around the world!
More About Me: I absolutely love science! It has been a passion of mine since I was young. Anything related to animals, space, fossils, and so much more! I just enjoy learning more and more about about the natural world. I have gone to the Dolphin Research Center in Grassy Key, FL and worked with dolphins for a week, as well as traveled to Sweden for a summer to study copepods in Gulmarn Fjord! My second love has always been history. I love learning about the past and studying all of the different cultures in the world. I grew up outside of Washington D.C. and spent lots of time at all of the cool museums, statues, and historic sites that surrounded me. I am looking forward to teaching 8th grade Science this year!
I am happily married and a mother to two wonderful children! I love spending time with my family, because they are the most important thing in the world to me, other than my students. I will be Coaching Science Olympiad this year as well! Go BMS Red Devils!
