● The spelling bee will be composed of two levels of competition
Grades 3-5, Grades 6-8
● Each school may send 4 students per grade for this competition.
● See provided spelling lists to use as studying. Participants in each grade level should study all words from their respective grade level (i.e. Grade 3-5 participants should study all words from grade 3, 4 and 5 lists).
The spelling bee will be an oral competition held in a similar way that the Scripps National Spelling Bee is held.
● Participants will randomly choose numbers to determine the order they will spell.
● Participants will sit in rows according to spelling order, stand and come to the front of the spelling area when it is their turn to spell for each round.
● Spelling host/Word Caller will use words provided in their predetermined order.
● Spellers may request that the word be used in a sentence or for the definition of the word.
● The spelling bee will be held in rounds with each speller spelling once per round.
● The preliminary rounds (number determined by the spelling bee host and judges) will be held earlier in the day with the final rounds held as part of the closing session.
● Rounds continue until only one speller is left. The final speller must spell one additional word to win.
