When homecoming kicked off last Saturday, PHS students from every grade were there in stunning outfits and ready to dance. However, in order to pull off the event, staff and students needed to prepare in advance. We polled 150 PHS students to find out what exactly went into their Homecoming Dance preparation.

Most students saw the unofficial dress code as at least semi-formal, and on top of spending an average of $100 on their outfits, went out to get their hair, nails, makeup, and even piercings done. To save on costs, some students used clothes they already owned, while others bought brand new outfits from various stores.

Before the big day, 69% of students made sure to get a date to the dance, while the remaining 31% elected to go alone or with a group of friends. Members of each grade spent anywhere from .5-2+ hours getting ready on Homecoming day, with the most common time frame being 1.5-2 hours.

Dressing up was the best part of the night for 63% of students, while others preferred dancing, seeing friends, and for 2 students, the afterparties. The final outfits ranged from casual clothes to suits, ties, and sparkly dresses. Themes of attire included ‘Cinderella dresses,” floral, and vintage. The most common theme was anything that sparkled, with clean suits coming at a close second.
