Get to know your teacher:
Mrs. Henderson is in her 34th year of teaching. She taught preschool, grade two, and music K-8 before making her home for the past 27 years in first grade. She has previously worked at four other schools, including St. Patrick School in Pelham, and is thrilled to be a part of the staff at Pelham Elementary. She has a wonderful "mad scientist" husband, who has a PhD and works as a molecular virologist, directing a laboratory. She also has two adult sons, Geordan and Bryce.
Mrs. Henderson was born in the U.P. (Upper Peninsula) of Michigan and lived in the Midwest until she moved here with her husband 30 years ago. In her spare time, she takes tap and jazz dancing, plays in a handbell choir, and sings in her church choir.
My beliefs as a teacher:
It is my belief that first graders should want to come to school! Learning is fascinating
and enticing! It is my job and joy to provide them with a great start, to do whatever it
takes to make them feel successful, and to ignite sparks that will promote a lifelong love
of learning. My goal is to educate the whole child in a safe, respectful environment
and to devote time and energy to guiding each child to his/her next step forward. My first
graders know I enjoy them, I enjoy teaching, and I still enjoy learning! My vehicle license
plate is FUN2LRN! As Dr. Seuss (one of my favorite authors) says, "It is fun to have fun, but
you have to know how!" I hope in our classroom you will have fun and enjoy learning with me!
