Homework Expectations
In general, fourth grade students are expected to complete nightly homework. Fourth grade homework may typically take about 30 to 40 minutes.
Homework assignments and expectations vary by teacher; below are some typical expectations and examples of homework assignments by content area:
Math:
Complete a practice page on current or review skills; this may be classwork that needs to be finished or an additional practice page.
Practice math facts; we encourage students to practice multiplication facts nightly, and then division later on. See our Helpful Resources section for ways to practice.
Reading: Read for 20 minutes
Science/Social Studies: Review/study for an upcoming assessment using the study guide
Agenda Book Expectations for Students
Students will write homework assignments & important reminders in their agenda book each day as needed. Students are responsible for checking their agenda book to see what assignments they need to work on each night.
Agenda Book Expectations for Parents/Guardians
Teachers may expect parents or guardians to initial their student's agenda book each night/morning and check with their student to see that his/her assignments are complete. An adult at Aftercare or a daycare location may also sign the assignment book if your child is not completing assignments at their home.
Parents/guardians may also leave notes in the agenda book to communicate with your student's teacher regarding homework assignments.
