I am proud to be a part of the Pearl River School District with over 16 years of experience working with children and families in schools, mental health placements, and pediatric offices. I began my career as an 8th Grade Science and Kindergarten Teacher, where I first noticed the powerful connection between social and emotional learning and academic success.
I later attended Columbia University School of Social Work, focusing on Clinical Social Work within school settings. After this experience, I served in NYC area schools as a School Social Worker and Director of School Culture and Family Engagement. I was trained in Responsive Classroom, Restorative Practices, and was responsible for supporting our school discipline and emotional supports. I later received clinical training at Green Chimneys Residential Treatment Center, Pediatrics of Sleepy Hollow and Eastchester Pediatrics as a Social Worker and Behavioral Health Consultant, supporting families and children with medical, social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. At these sites, I was trained in play therapy as a means to implement evidence-based practices, such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy for children (DBT-C).
I am passionate about teaching and providing supports to promote social, emotional, and behavioral growth for children in school, while also connecting with families to provide helpful resources. If your family or child needs support, please feel free to email me at borcherdinge@pearlriver.org or give me a ring at 845-945-2463.
Outside of my love for social and emotional learning, I enjoy spending my time coaching soccer, running, and cheering on the New York Knicks and Liverpool Football Club.
How I work...
Children communicate best through play. Bringing joy and identifying strengths is vital to the work.
I use data to inform and guide decisions, while reflecting and improving my approach.
I enjoy growing my skills and staying informed on the latest evidence-based approaches.
