Volunteer Opportunities

WPU Community Service and Volunteer Organizations

The American Red Cross, through its strong network of volunteers, donors and partners, is always there in times of need. We aspire to turn compassion into action so that all people affected by disaster across the country and around the world receive care, shelter and hope; our communities are ready and prepared for disasters; everyone in our country has access to safe, lifesaving blood and blood products; all members of our armed services and their families find support and comfort whenever needed; and in an emergency, there are always trained individuals nearby, ready to use their Red Cross skills to save lives.

The Food Shuttle saves 5.5 million pounds of healthy food from being thrown away and re-routes it to these people in need. Almost 35% of what we distribute is fresh produce.

We feed people through programs such as BackPack Buddies, Mobile Markets, Grocery Bags for Seniors, School Pantries, our Mobile Tastiness Machine, and by partnering with almost 100 local agencies in neighborhoods throughout our service area to reach people at their point of need.

Welcome to an extraordinary resource! North Carolina’s most visited museum with one of the State’s most iconic landmarks—the SECU Daily Planet. The NC Museum of Natural Sciences is the largest institution of its kind in the South East and one of the nation’s most amazing museums about the natural world. This Museum asks four basic questions about the natural sciences—what do we know?, how do we know?, what’s happening now?, how can you participate?—with an integrated suite of onsite, offsite, online and outdoor experiences.

The NC Museum of Natural Sciences is a high-performing nexus of research, collections, living collections, exhibitions and digital media, school and lifelong education, community engagement, and a regional network—each fueled by great expertise and a diversifying portfolio of public, earned and contributed funds. Progress is forged by maximizing the dividends on a remarkable history of public and private sector investments with a growing array of partnerships.

Come be apart of our great organization!

Urban Ministries of Wake County (Volunteers)

Since 1981, Urban Ministries of Wake County has responded to our neighbors in crisis by providing basic needs – food, medicine and shelter. Lately, we’ve placed renewed emphasis on looking beyond the moment – helping clients to build a higher quality of life. We engage our community to serve and advocate on behalf of those affected by poverty by providing food and nutrition, promoting health and wellness, and by laying the foundations of home.

Volunteers are essential to UMWC as they extend our reach when helping our neighbors in need. Available volunteer positions are in the food pantry and open door clinic. UMWC has three intern session per year (fall, spring and summer). The intern positions are unique and a great hands on opportunity to strengthen your educational knowledge.

Please see our website for all available opportunities and directions on how to start!
