Getting an SSN
If you are an international student who does NOT already have a valid Social Security Number (SSN) issued by the U.S. government, then you need to get one in order to work for the university. Here is an overview of the procedure:
If the ECE Department decides to hire you, it will send you a job offer letter.
If you accept the offer, the ECE Department then sends you an "On-Campus Employment Authorization/SSN Eligibility" form to fill out. You can either e-mail it or take it to PSU International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS).
Once ISSS receives the form, they will create a Form I-20 and send it back to you.
You then have to make an appointment with the local U.S. Social Security Administration office for an interview to obtain your SSN card.
After receiving your SSN, you fill out Form I-9 and take it to the PSU Human Resources office with the required documentation to complete this process.

Notes:
You cannot get paid for your work until you receive your SSN card.
You will receive detailed instructions on what to do once you accept the job offer.
Please be aware that getting an SSN card is difficult right now due to COVID-19 restrictions, so proactivity and patience are helpful.
