The CADES RTG organizes an unusual seminar, favoring dialogue over monologue, designed to never let the audience be passive listeners. To engage all members, junior and senior, of the RTG and to take away any reluctance in interrupting with questions, the Colloquia Salientia talks are in the following nonstandard format.
Each speaker presents the discussion topic or punchlines in the first 10 minutes. This is usually done with slides or other prepared presentation materials.
The next 10 minutes is a free-form (unmoderated) Q&A session, designed to break the ice and bust jargon. Members of the audience may ask speakers to give more background or context, describe the current research in the topic, give examples, or clear up definitions.
The next 30 minutes is devoted to a (moderated) presentation with many interruptions and questions. Speakers are requested to adapt to the audience feedback and encouraged to abandon a linearly ordered presentation.
This activity's name, Colloquia Salientia, comes from Latin, where colloquia is used in the sense of a learned conversation, with salientia indicating that the conversation will hop around freely.
