Hundreds of thousands of tons of usable materials from the Portland Metro area go into the landfill each year. The importance of materials wasted is monumental in terms of upstream greenhouse gas contribution as well as other environmental impacts including water, energy, toxic materials, virgin resources and solid waste. The impact of waste and material use is not well understood by the public or by industry.
There are substantial economic benefits that can be gained when materials are reused instead of discarded.
ResourceFULL Use is an effective mechanism to bring those that have materials together with those that need the materials and so bring the materials into productive reuse. It is also a tool for educating industry about the upstream impacts and importance of reuse. Additionally, ResourceFULL Use is a facilitator and sparks related activities that complement the central objective of materials reuse.
