Membership in our Psi Chi chapter is open to students who are majoring or minoring in psychology and attend Portland State University. Qualified candidates include those of any age, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, disability, color, religion, national and ethnic origin, and who meet the minimum qualifications below:
The Psi Chi Constitution requires that Portland State University undergraduate students:
Must be enrolled as a student at PSU
Must have established a GPA at PSU (this means you must be a student at PSU for at least one term before you apply)
Must be at least a second-semester sophomore
Must be enrolled as a major or minor in a psychology program
Must have completed at least 9 semester hours or 14 quarter hours of psychology courses (including transfer credit hours)
Must have earned an overall GPA of 3.0
Must have a psychology GPA that is at least 3.0 on a 4-point scale
* Undergraduate students who have transferred from a different institution and are interested in becoming a Psi Chi member must meet the requirements listed above, plus complete one semester at the new institution to establish a GPA and complete 4 hours of psychology courses at the new institution.
1. Please apply on the national website psichi.org.
2. Once this has been submitted, it will be reviewed by the faculty advisor on campus. Please send a copy of your DARS report to tbodner@pdx.edu for review. You will receive an e-mail notifying you of your approval within 3 weeks from the faculty advisor.
3. Membership dues required are $70 ($60 for the national lifetime Psi Chi membership fee and $10 for the local chapter fee). The national lifetime fee is collected on the national Psi Chi website, and chapter dues are collected separately. Both of these fees are one-time payments.
4. Once all documentation and fees have been received and approved, you will receive your member status.
