Each year, in addition to nominating faculty for Portland State's university-level awards, individual colleges and schools across campus are invited to name an outstanding researcher, scholar, or practitioner of the year. The 2024 College/School Researcher of the Year winners are:

Outstanding Dissertation Awards

2024 Outstanding Dissertation in the Natural Sciences

Taylor Dodrill is the recipient of the 2024 Outstanding Disseration in the Natural Sciences Award. Taylor's program of study is Earth, Environment and Society, and dissertation title is "Tiny Drifters Amidst Global Change: Examining Environmental Drivers, Trophic Impacts, and Management Strategies of Estuarine Plankton Communities in the Anthropocene." Taylor's advisor is Yangdong Pan.

2024 Outstanding Dissertation in Mathematics, Engineering and Computer Science

Marcus Andrew Harris is the recipient of the 2024  Outstanding Dissertation in Mathematics, Engineering and Computer Science Award. Marcus's program of study is Systems Science, and dissertation title is "Graphical Models in Reconstructability Analysis and Bayesian Networks." Marcus's advisor is Martin Zwick.

202 Outstanding Dissertation in the Social Sciences

Anna Rockhill is the recipient of the 2024 Outstanding Dissertation in the Social Sciences Award. Anna's program of study is Social Work and Social Research, and dissertation title is "Prosecutors or Helpers: An Institutional Ethnography of Child Protective Services Casework." Anna's advisor is Stephanie Bryson.
