Lasthenia maritima - maritime goldfields - growing in its preferred habitat, on ocean rocks among bird droppings.
Training for new and returning volunteers occurs every spring, typically in early April. In the past, we have gathered at the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge for one day to do both our classroom-based and outdoor practical training. Attending training is highly recommended for group trips and required for solo outings.
Anyone who is interested in participating in plant and fungal conservation is welcome to join the program. Typically volunteers are adults but children are welcome when accompanied by an adult. Field days can be long and hot with difficult terrain. Please be advised that not all outings are accessible to those with mobility limitations.
We use the online platform Survey123 to collect data on smart phones or tablets. Volunteers will be taught the assessment methods at the spring training.
Delphinium leucophaeum - pale larkspur - blooming in Clackamas Co of the Willamette Valley.
Outings to survey rare plants typically occur during the months of April - October, based on flowering and fruiting phenology. Outings for rare fungi occur in April - May and August - December, based on mushroom timing. We try to host at least 2 outings per month on a mix of weekdays and weekends.
Notifications for outings will be sent to the mailing list 2 or more weeks in advance. The calendar page of this website is also a good place to check for future outings. You should email the coordinator as early as possible to sign up to attend an outing. Some outings will have a limited space available in the vehicle(s) and the roster is made on a first come, first serve basis.
Polyozellus atrolazulinus - blue chanterelle - growing in Willamette National Forest.
