10:10-11:10 AM - Virtual Tour of the Park in Stations

Each station will be hosted by a teacher, students, and a ranger. During the 25 minute session at each station, visitors will watch a brief accessible video, explore the station's floor plan, review important artifacts related to the station, and engage in Q&A.

Stations include:

  • The Historic Garden & The Bake House

  • The Blacksmith Shop & The Fur Store

11:10-11:45 AM - Wrap-Up & Careers in National Parks

Who are the employees and what do they do?

11:45 AM-12:00 PM - Sponsorship Expo (optional)

Special thanks to American Printing House for the Blind, Digital City Testbed Center at Portland State University, Washington State School for the Blind, and Fort Vancouver National Historic Site.

*Research survey on accessibility will be shared to solicit feedback from attendees.

Learning Objectives

Learning Objectives for K-12 Students:

  1. Describe historical lives; food sources; and activities of daily living of people at Fort Vancouver.

  2. Describe historical artifacts, tools, and means of transportation used by people at Fort Vancouver.

  3. Describe the physical space at historic Fort Vancouver using a tactile map.

  4. Engage in educational games and discussions with peers and educators.

  5. Describe 3 types of career opportunities within the National Park System.


Learning Objectives for Special Educators and Parents:

  1. Discover and describe approaches for engaging K-12 students in accessible, virtual field trip experiences.

  2. Involve your K-12 students in core social studies and reading content while building orientation and mobility (O&M) and career concepts.

  3. Explore take-away materials and collaborate with educators/parents on future opportunities.


Learning Objectives for Professionals, Other Educators, College Students:

  1. Describe the types of accommodations provided to students with disabilities to promote engaged online learning.

  2. Experience accessible educational media to enrich virtual tours and learning events.

  3. Explore how the natural and built environment may be conveyed in a virtual learning environment for students with and without disabilities.

  4. Make connections with educational, recreational, and other community agencies who are interested in hosting accessible virtual events.
