GIS-Mapping Exchange
Resources

ABOUT THE RESOURCES

For those completely new to geospatial information science, the Introductory GIS Course materials are a good place to start.

To learn common GIS techniques, such as georeferencing historic maps or creating ESRI StoryMaps, or to read about specific GIS topics, check out the Quick GIS and Mapping Lessons section.

The Finding and Using GIS Data section includes a thorough overview of the topic as well as a compendium of online sources of spatial data.

Finally, the Technical Considerations section will be helpful to libraries hoping to make ESRI's industry standard ArcGIS Pro available to patrons as a library resource.

Introductory GIS Course

There are two sets of course materials depending on intended use:

Note that both sets of materials are very similar, only differing slightly based on their intended use. If you're interested in leading a workshop it's a good idea to work through the Self-Guided materials first.
