Available GIS Software
The Virtual Computer Lab allows students to access GIS software packages from their own computers off campus. The list of available software packages includes:
ArcGIS Desktop 10.7.1
ArcGIS Pro 2.5.0
ENVI and IDL 5.5
QGIS
IBM SPSS Statistics
Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, etc.
In addition, students have direct access to their H: and I: drive.
Warning!!! When you close the VLAB browser, all unfinished tasks and programs could be terminated due to the lost of connection. If you close the browser by accident, then you should log back on immediately to make sure your work is saved. Also you have no control on which virtual computer you will log on in VLAB. That means any GUI customization (e.g., pinning a program shortcut to the start menu) won't persist between different VLAB sessions. However, the files you save on the VLAB Desktop, H: and I: drive are accessible on any VLAB computers.
Network Workspace
I: drive shared course folder I:\Research\Shares\gis_coursework\[your_course_number]
Students taking some GIS courses will have access to the I: shared course folder. Please contact your instructor to gain access to the shared folder. Please note that the folder is for coursework only. Its content will be removed at the end of the term. All files stored in the same course folder are accessible by every student in the class. Be mindful when you save files to the shared I: drive folder.
