Ismael J. Bastida De Jesus is a fourth year undergraduate Pre-Med student pursuing a Public Health and Psychology double major and a Chemistry Minor. Ismael is passionate about researching the chemistry of the brain and the nervous system. He is currently exploring Deep Brain Stimulation Therapy as a treatment strategy for focal epilepsy patients at OHSU's Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. Ismael enjoys reading a good book, spending time with family, or watching Netflix when he is not in class, in the lab, or doing homework. In Ismael's life, URISE has acted as the source of inspiration to pursue a career in Healthcare. Ismael now feels more confident and certain about his future career as a scientist and personal ambitions, thanks to the URISE Program and the mentors and individuals he has encountered along the journey."

Eries Jay Moreno is a 4th year undergraduate at the University of Guam studying Psychology and Biology-Medical Track. With cardiovascular diseases being a prevalent concern on the island of Guam, Eries Jay’s academic and career endeavors are fueled by the hope of advancing the healthcare system and clinical research conducted on the island of Guam and the rest of the Pacific. His current research is focused on understanding cardiometabolic diseases in the Pacific. Upon graduation, Eries Jay will be working at the National Institutes of Health as a UGSP Research Fellow. Concurrently, he aims to utilize that time in preparation for MD/PhD programs. Outside of academia, Eries Jay enjoys making coffee and reading.

Anna is a Pacific Northwest native who moved to Portland in 2016. Enamored by heritage languages and their roles in various social and community settings, she pursued a degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences & Psychology. Currently, she is working in Dr. Sunny Lin’s lab where they’re assessing the U.S health departments capabilities to receive data electronically in regards to COVID-19. Her next academic steps are applying to doctor of audiology programs (AuD) for Fall of 2022. When she isn't in the lab, she's learning how to make new dishes, reading, or watching tv with her family.
