Public Participation Geographic Imagination Sculptures (PPGIS) invites community members to imagine and co-create place-based, site-specific public art installations. By incorporating community engagement at the outset, we facilitate the creation of public art installations that highlight, magnify, and celebrate community pride, cultural values, and civic participation through shared experience.
We do this in a number of ways:
Community conversations. We invite community members to think, dream, and share stories with each other and with us. These facilitated conversations build community, connection, and identify support for proposed ideas. Community conversations are open to all community members where the planned artwork will be installed.
Site mapping visits. We visit the proposed site and other related places with community members to understand the geographic context for the art installation.
Art and craft workshops. We host and facilitate art and craft workshops for community members to contribute to the art installation materially and meaningfully.
