The Ceremony of Twelve

It was late December. I was getting ready for the Ceremony of Twelve tomorrow. I felt really nervous but excited at the same time. But for some reason, everyone got a day off. I decided to get up and eat some breakfast that my parents made. It was eggs, toast, and bacon. After I ate, I read some books and did some extra homework for around 2-3 hours.

So much time had passed by and I remembered about tomorrow, so I was getting really nervous. It was noon and I was kind of bored, so I went outside to call Asher to pass some time and keep me company. We played tag, hide and seek, and we rode on our bikes. We were playing for 5 hours and I was getting a bit tired so I went inside. I was pretty bored so I thought to myself about what I might get in the ceremony of twelve. Well, it was already 5:30 and I was really hungry since I skipped lunch, so I asked my parents if they made anything for dinner. They said we had leftovers and it was steak, rice, and asparagus. I ate dinner and it was delicious. I was stuffed and felt a bit bored so I decided to read some more books. The books I was reading were Diary of the Wimpy Kid. It was 8:30 and I was really tired, so I got ready for bed. I got in bed and kept thinking to myself again about what I might get in the ceremony of twelve. I was really hoping it was an artist or some sort of engineer. But I won’t really know until tomorrow.

It was the morning. I got up, got dressed, brushed my teeth, and went downstairs. The ceremony was at one in the afternoon, so I still had a couple of hours to get ready. I was feeling really nervous but I was confident that I would get one of the assignments that I wanted.

Once I went downstairs, I had some breakfast which was some scrambled eggs and some toast. After I ate breakfast I went outside for a bit to think some more about what I might get in the ceremony of twelve. Some of the assignments I don’t want to get are actor, singer, or telemarketer. As I said before, I would really like to be assigned some sort of engineer that works with robotic systems, or a job related to art.

After doing some thinking I went back inside and did a bit of reading since I still had an hour until the ceremony started. I read for 30 minutes and started getting ready since I had to bike to the ceremony. I got my shoes on and rode to the ceremony with my parents. It took us around 10 minutes to get there but once we arrived I got a bunch of butterflies in my stomach. We had to wait another couple minutes for all the people to come.

Once those couple minutes passed it was finally time for the ceremony to begin. I walked up to the Receiver of Memory feeling really nervous and he said ‘’Mateo, you have done really well in your classes, and you have helped with many different jobs, but now I will allow you to pick whichever job you would like.’’ I was so happy when I heard him say that, and without hesitation, I said, ‘’I would like to become a robotic engineer.’’ The Receiver of Memory said ‘’That's a great choice.’’ Even my friend Asher got the job he wanted, which was an actor. After the ceremony was over, me and my parents rode back home on our bikes and I thought since I am now a robotic engineer I can make new devices and robotic systems for the community.

I am not really sure if they would appreciate the new things I am going to create but I’m just happy I got the assignment I wanted.
