All secondary students are required to complete a minimum of 40 hours of community service as a part of their OSSD requirements. The purpose of this requirement is to encourage students to develop an understanding of civic responsibility. By being involved in their community, students can develop transferable skills and explore different sectors and career opportunities, while also deepening their understanding of their role in society. Students may start accumulating volunteering hours the summer before grade 9.
Hard copies of the Community Involvement Form can be found in the Student Services office. A soft copy is attached below. Students are asked to hand in their completed form in to the Student Services office.
The guidance team recommends that students asks their guidance counsellor if an activity constitutes as volunteering if they are unsure prior to starting. General guidelines can be found here: https://www.peelschools.org/40-hours
