Mystery Hangouts are collaborative inquiries whereby two classes engage in a virtual guessing game. Each class tries to guess the other's whereabouts first. Using "yes" or "no" questions and their knowledge of geography, students take turns asking questions of their mystery guests in order to narrow down their country of origin, province/state of origin as well as their city. These hangouts may be pre-recorded or performed live via Skype or Google Hangouts.
When the locations are discovered, "expert students" are encouraged to share additional information about life in their hometown.
Connect with FSL colleagues and schedule Mystery Hangouts via Twitter (#twittclasse) or Google +.
Can you guess where these international students are from based on their pre-recorded Mystery Hangouts ? Ask students to listen carefully to the clues before they make their guess. Slow down the playback speed and/or add closed captioning to provide additional support for students?
Here are some examples of questions that students can ask during the mystery hangout. Also included are questions that students can ask after the hangout to get to know the other class.
