2020 Nominees Coming late October 2019

It’s once again time to share the top 10 nominated Canadian picture books as selected by the Ontario Library Association with our students in K, grade 1, 2, and 3.

• We will be sharing these books through inquiry boxes that will be shared throughout the primary classes.
• The boxes will “mysteriously” arrive soon in random classes.
• Each box will contain the nominated picture book and a selection of objects and/or invitations to inspire student responses in a creative and flexible manner.
• If your class is uninspired by a text that’s totally ok - just pass the box and book along to another class.
• If your students are engaged with a particular book - keep it longer and let them continue their learning.
• Any documentation or student creations you might have can be place in the box before you pass it along to the next class so that your kids can inspire others.
• Although the goal is to share all 10 texts with your classes it’s not a requirement at all.
• We will have an “official” voting day on April 23rd 2019 in the LLC. About a week before that we ask for all the boxes and books back so that they can be on display for everyone to see.

In the past the challenge of this system was remembering to pass the books along to each other.

To address this we have a few things set up:

1. A tracking sheet for each of you to monitor which books your class has read.
2. A weekly reminder via email and the announcements to remember to pass boxes along.
3. A YouTube Playlist which includes all 10 books as read-alouds read by me found below and in the Stories for Everyone section of this website which can be used in class and/or shared with families.
