This session introduces you to simple and free solutions for publishing. We'll start by looking at some tips to manipulate objects and settings in Slides in order to produce designs for brochures, postcards, newsletters, school magazines, even social media specific images and create some practical hands-on projects.
Make a copy of the slide deck to the right and work through the deck following the instructions. I will get you started with this.
You can make your page size whatever you prefer. This site is useful for finding the dimensions of standard page sizes such as US Letter, Postcards, business cards, etc. OR use this link for social media specific sizes.
Now that you have a “slide” in the shape of a printed page, you can start thinking about it as a page rather than a slide. Add text boxes, shapes, images. Go nuts. Need more pages? Just add more “slides”.
From the magazine examples provided on the right (make your own copy), then pick one. Don't be too fussy. Just pick one and use it. Feel free to modify and adapt the layout if you wish. Replace the content (text, images, logos, etc) with whatever content you prefer. Maybe base it on a topic you teach or a specific curriculum area. Your choice.
Once you make a page you're happy with, go to File > Download As > PNG to generate an image of your work. You can also select PDF if you want a print-ready PDF version of your work.
Take a moment and share your image on Twitter or Instagram using #GoogleEdu and tag me @DanJacksonFTK if on twitter.
If you finish this task, why not try making something else, such as a background image for a YouTube page, an image for an event on Facebook, a postcard, trifold brochure or booklet?
