Q: Are there credits for translations and proofreading? Is it possible to write your own name at the end of the video?
A: Optionally, you can add at the end of the video "Subtitles translated by..." or "Subtitles reviewed by..." in your target language.
Q: Is there any Certification to show my contribution to the Amplifying Voices team?
A: For a certificate of participation, we are happy to provide this once two or more of your subtitles have been successfully published. Please contact us via the email amplifying-voices@pculture.org when you reach this point and we can personalize a certificate. In the future, we do hope to have this automated, but at the moment it's a manual process.
A: Great! Thank you for helping to make critical content more accessible. The assignment is now available to one of the volunteer team members (aka Full Contributors) who are responsible for reviewing the subtitles. You should get a notification when your subtitles are Reviewed.
A: Your translation is now available for Review by a Full Contributor. Some languages might have a small number of Full Contributors, so there might be a queue.
If you want to help with the Review of other translations, we encourage you to apply to be a Full Contributor after you’ve completed a few translations.
A: If you need more time to complete an assignment, please write to amplifying-voices@pculture.org and we’ll reassign it back to you.
A: These subtitles will not necessarily be published on YouTube because Amplifying Voices doesn't own the videos. Our mission is to use the Amara platform to make videos accessible with subtitles using our Editor which allows the public to view videos in different languages but within the Amara platform. Amplifying Voices videos are public, so anyone with the link of the video on Amara will be able to view the video with subtitles.
A: We encourage you to share videos translated by the Amplifying Voices volunteer team with your language community in order to spread awareness and valuable information. To share it, you only need to copy the URL of the video on the Amara Platform. The videos on Amplifying Voices are public, so it can be shared or embedded in a website or blog.
A: We will soon begin reaching out and partnering with content creators (on YouTube and other platforms) to ensure that subtitles are published on the hosting platform and distributed as broadly as possible.
A: If you know a video that might benefit from translation and has valuable information, please write to us at amplifying-voices@pculture.org. Do keep in mind that the video will go through an Editorial Review process to ensure it meets certain criteria before being considered for translation by the team.
A: All the subtitles for the videos in Amplifying Voices are created by volunteer members who donate their time and linguistic skills to help make important content accessible to more people around the world because they want to bring awareness and positive impact into their language communities.
