Letters of Recommendation
When requesting a Letter of Recommendation you should follow the following steps:
Ask for all letters of recommendation AT LEAST two weeks prior to the deadline. (Reminder: Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on theirs).
Traditionally you should ask for the letter in person (face to face), however given the current pandemic, requesting via a personal email is acceptable. If you are able actually see the person, that is still best practice.
When asking someone for a letter of recommendation, be sure to provide the following information IN WRITING:
Your full name (if you have two last names, make sure that you provide both)
A copy of your Activity Sheet or Brag Sheet
What you are applying for that needs the recommendation?
College ~ Which college and which program/major
Scholarship ~ Be specific
Job ~ Be as specific as possible
The complete address of where the letter should be sent OR directions on how to submit the letter of recommendation.
The deadline for the letter of recommendation
If you will be needing additional letters in the future, it is polite to ask the person to save your letter to be used again later.
You should always follow up with a hand written thank you note.
