Goal
The purpose of this assignment is to help you prepare professional job application materials for a teacher or paraeducator position. In this revised version, you will:
Write your own resume and cover letter,
Use AI to review your documents and give personalized feedback,
Revise your documents based on the feedback, and
Reflect on how helpful the AI feedback was.
Before You Begin: Getting Started With AI
Many students are new to AI tools. You may use any AI chatbot, such as:
ChatGPT
Google Gemini ( You have free access to Gemini using your PCC Google account)
Microsoft Copilot
All of these tools allow you to copy/paste your resume and cover letter into the chat and ask for suggestions.
How to Start
Use a prompt such as:
“I am applying for a paraeducator (or teacher) position. Here is my resume. Please review it and give me feedback to improve clarity, organization, and professionalism.”
Then do the same with your cover letter:
“Please review my cover letter for a paraeducator (or teacher) position. Suggest improvements for tone, structure, and strength of messaging.”
You are welcome to ask follow-up prompts like:
Help me make this more concise.
What specific skills should I highlight for an elementary paraeducator position?
Is my cover letter too long?
Can you recommend a better opening sentence?
You are in control of the feedback you request.
Assignment Instructions
This assignment has three parts.
Part I — Create Your Resume (15 points)
Review the resume-writing resources in this week’s Instructional Materials.
Select a resume format that effectively showcases your skills, education, and experience.
Create a resume that is no more than two pages.
Save this version as Draft 1: Resume.
Next, get AI feedback:
Copy/paste your resume into the AI tool and ask: “Please review my resume for a paraeducator/teacher position. Give me specific feedback on formatting, clarity, and how well I highlight my strengths.”
You must submit:
Your original resume (Draft 1)
The AI feedback you received (copy/paste)
Your revised resume (Draft 2)
Part II — Create Your Cover Letter (15 points
Your cover letter should be one page and include:
✔ Who you are + relevant skills and experience
✔ Why you are a strong candidate (“your professional pitch”)
✔ Name of the position
✔ Name of the school or district
✔ Mention of your attached resume
✔ Mention of any additional documents
✔ Contact information
✔ A professional closing statement
Save this version as Draft 1: Cover Letter.

You must submit:
Your original cover letter (Draft 1)
The AI feedback you received
Your revised cover letter (Draft 2)
Part III — AI Reflection (20 points)
Write a short reflection (150–250 words) answering the following:
What feedback did the AI give you on your resume and cover letter?
(Summarize the most important suggestions.)
Which suggestions did you choose to apply, and why?
Was the AI feedback helpful or not? Explain.
What did you learn about resumes, cover letters, or job applications through this process?
This reflection is essential, as it demonstrates what you learned from interacting with the AI reviewer.

✔ AI Feedback for Resume
✔ Draft 2: Resume (Revised)
✔ Draft 1: Cover Letter
✔ AI Feedback for Cover Letter
✔ Draft 2: Cover Letter (Revised)

Goal
The goal of this assignment is to help you build confidence for real job interviews by using AI as a practice interviewer. You will interact with AI to role-play an interview for a teacher, paraeducator, or education-related position. You will learn how to ask clear prompts, respond professionally, and reflect on what you learned from the interaction.
Before You Begin: Getting Started With AI (For Students Who Have Never Used It)
1. What AI Tool Should I Use?
You may use any AI chatbot, such as:
ChatGPT
Microsoft Copilot
Google Gemini
All work the same for this assignment. PCC offers Gemini for free with your PCC account. Most tools allow limited free access.
2. How Do I Start a Conversation With AI?
Open the tool and type a message like:
“I want you to act as an interviewer for a job in education. Please ask me interview questions one at a time and give me feedback after each answer.”
You will then respond to each question, and AI will behave like an interviewer.
3. What Is a Prompt?
A prompt is simply what you type into the AI.
Good prompts are:
✔clear
✔ specific
✔ polite
✔ include context
Example:
“Pretend you are interviewing me for a paraeducator position in a K–5 school. Ask me 5 questions, one at a time. After each of my answers, give me suggestions on how to improve.”
AI will do exactly what you instruct it to do.
4. Tips for Effective Prompting
Use phrases like:
"Act as…”
“Ask me…”
“Give me feedback about…”
“Rewrite my answer to sound more professional.”
“Help me improve my interview skills by…”
If AI is unclear or asks the wrong thing, simply type:
“Try again.”
“Ask me simpler questions.”
“Give me one question at a time.”
You are in control of the interview.
Assignment Instructions
This assignment has three parts.
Part 1: Interview-Preparation Tips (10 points)
Review the job-interview resources in this week’s module.
Then list three tips you found especially helpful.
For each tip, explain why it was important or relevant to you.
Example format:
Tip you learned
Why this matters for interviews
Part 2: AI-Powered Mock Interview (30 points)
Step A — Tell AI What Job You’re Applying For
Choose one:
Teacher
Paraeducator
Another education-related position
Type a prompt such as:
“Act as an interviewer for a paraeducator job at an elementary school. Ask me common interview questions one at a time.”
Step B — Practice Answering at Least Two Key Questions
You must practice one of the following typical interview questions:
What is your greatest strength?
What is your greatest weakness?
What was a major challenge in your last position, and how did you handle it?
Tell me about yourself.
Why do you want this position?
What is important to you in a school environment?
If colleagues were asked why you should be hired, what would they say?
Your task:
Copy the question AI asked you (or select one from the list above).
Write out your exact answer as you would say it in an interview.
Then ask AI:
“Give me feedback on my answer and suggest ways to improve it.”
Revise your answer based on AI’s suggestions.
Submit your original answer + revised answer, + the AI feedback you received.
Part 3: Asking Your Own Question (10 points)
At the end of most real interviews, the interviewer asks:
“Do you have any questions for us?”
Write one thoughtful question you would ask the hiring committee.
Your question should:
✔ show genuine curiosity about the school or district
✔ NOT be something you can easily find on the website
✔ NOT be about salary or benefits
Examples:
How does your school support new paraeducators during the first month?
What professional development opportunities are available for teachers?
How do grade-level teams collaborate on lesson planning?
Submission Requirements
Your submission must include:
Three interview tips + explanation
Two mock interview answers, including:
The questions
Your original answer
AI’s feedback (copy/paste)

One question you would ask the interviewer
Teaching is deeply meaningful work, but it can also be emotionally, mentally, and physically demanding. One of the most important professional habits you can build now, as a future educator, is the ability to care for yourself with intention. Sustainable teaching begins with sustainable you.
Why Self-Care Matters in Education
As teachers, we support students through academic challenges, emotional stress, life transitions, and moments of growth. To do this well, we need to nurture and protect our own well-being. Self-care is not indulgent; it’s an essential part of ethical and responsible teaching. When you care for yourself, you:
Strengthen your resilience and emotional regulation
Model healthy habits for your students
Improve your creativity, patience, and decision-making
Build longevity in the profession
Your Self-Care Journal
Throughout the module, you are invited to keep a simple Self-Care Journal. Make a copy of this Google Document and download the copy. Your journal’s purpose is to record one activity that you are doing to take care of yourself each week. We need to develop habits of self-care so that it can become part of our practice. The suggested prompts are provided to help you get started. If you are doing something else than the suggested activity, then add it to your journal. In your After-Class Reflection, report what you are doing each week as a self-care practice.
Goal: The goal of this activity is to gather feedback on your understanding of concepts each week and address any questions you may have related to the content and instructions. This is considered a form of formative assessment.
Instructions: Please complete the survey.
