About me
I was born in Mumbai, India, and grew up in Mumbai and Dubai in the Middle East. I arrived in the United States in 1998 and have been residing in Oregon since 2014. I have taken many paths as an educator. Still, the common thread is that I've been a social justice advocate and educator for 20+ years, focusing on culturally responsive teaching, community engagement, and research excellence. My passion is opening hearts and minds by affirming identity and raising critical consciousness about social issues. I've taught diverse learners, from kindergarteners to doctoral candidates.
I am the college-wide Teaching & Learning Excellence Coordinator at Portland Community College (PCC). Previously, I was an administrator and professor in Concordia's doctoral program, guiding faculty development and student research. I also worked as an instructional technologist and assistant professor at Emory University, Morehouse College, and Spelman College in Atlanta. Before moving to North America, I worked as a psychometrician for Emirates Airlines in Dubai. I facilitated cross-cultural conversations that promoted the values of diversity, inclusion, and social justice within the organization.
I have a bachelor's degree in psychology, a master's in counseling psychology from the University of Mumbai, India, and a Doctorate in Education from Alliant International University in San Francisco, CA. I love being an educator because I am constantly learning new things. I am looking forward to learning from you and with you!
I believe that using OER resources provides students with a holistic approach to education, as you can curate relevant and current information.
