ESOL Level 4 Students Write about Years to Remember
A Year to Remember
The year 2005 was a mixed year for me. First, my beloved daughter was born. I became a mother and real adult. I was very happy and excited. I became responsible for another person. Second, there was so much support from my family! My parents, grandmother, and brother were with me all the time and helped me mentally, physically, and financially. It was very important for me. I always felt their love. Finally, I unfortunately realized that I can no longer trust my first husband. I didn’t feel confident and was frustrated about it. The year 2005 was not easy, but despite all the difficulties, I am so happy to be a mother.

A Year to Remember: 2020
The year 2020 was a difficult and complicated year for my family and many people because a virus called Covid-19 expanded around the world, and it changed a lot of things in my personal life. First, we were home most of the time. My kids didn’t go to school anymore. My husband and I didn’t work for a few months, and my kids lost the opportunity to play outside with their friends in the park for a long period of time. Second, we didn’t visit our friends as usual. I worried, so I called them to talk about how they were doing at home or if they needed something. Some of my friends brought me groceries, muffins, and wrote notes to us. Finally, we used face masks most of the time at indoor places. It was very uncomfortable and complicated because when people spoke, it was difficult to understand what they said sometimes. In my point of view, the year 2020 was difficult. However, I tried to remember only the good moments and new activities that we did as a family and not focus on what we lost. I think that’s the way to start over.

The Year 2022 Was an Exciting Year for Me
2022 was an exciting and busy year for me. I did so many things in that year, and something happened to me. In 2022, I got my K1 visa to come to the United States. I was living in Turkey waiting for this visa. It took a long time to get it, but when it arrived, I was very excited. I got my visa in March of 2022. I had one month to get ready to leave Turkey. After a long flight from Turkey, I finally arrived in San Francisco, California. My fiance was waiting there to welcome me. Then we flew to my new home, Portland, Oregon. A few weeks later in 2022, I got married to my fiance, and that was the best time in my life. The wedding was beautiful, and everything went well. Also in 2022, I enrolled in ESOL at PCC Sylvania campus. And these events made 2022 an exciting year for me.

My 2022
There are three most important things why 2022 was unexpected for me. Firstly, in 2022, I received a visa to the USA. It was a surprise for me and my family. I was waiting for a visa for 5 years. Secondly, I arrived in the United States on February 26th. My husband met me in Los Angeles. We walked along the Avenue of Stars and ate in a cafe. Then we drove to Beaverton by car. The final thing, I started learning English in college. My classes were three times a week. It was very difficult for me, but very interesting. I always did my homework, but it was very hard to talk and listen. 2022 was the most wonderful, unexpected and a little difficult.
