"Sing in the Shower" Collection
The Writing 4 students learned a song with the Present Perfect, "But I still haven't found what I'm looking for" by U2. Class assistant Pam Beaty played the guitar for some live music! The song is part of the Writing 4 "Sing in the Shower" collection :)
My Valued Eighteenth Birthday
My best birthday was when I turned eighteen years old. It was in Colombia on August 8, 2015. I was extremely happy that day, because my family and friends got together to give me a big surprise that I had not suspected. I just arrived at the event hall, and they were waiting for me there with mariachis. As soon as the mariachis saw me, they started singing ‘’Las Mañanitas’’ song for me. Also they sang around two hours of Mexican music. After that we ate chicken, rice and french fries, but the most delicious part was when we ate cake. At the end of the day we danced for many hours. That day was very special and important for me, so special that I cried tears of happiness. My valued eighteenth birthday will always be in my fondest memories.

The Moment of Arrival
The day was the first day of March 2022. I arrived exactly at midnight in Portland. When I left my beloved country, Iran, it was actually midnight, so it was a one day and one night trip. It was my first solo trip to the other side of the world. When I arrived at the Portland airport and got off the airplane, I had two conflicting feelings. One was a feeling of deep homesickness and the other one was a new sense of happiness. It was interesting to me because I had a new experience. The weather was cold, and the air was full of the smell of rain. I felt that I could like it here, but not as much as Iran. I was born in the US, but I grew up in Iran, and I made so many memories there. This was the memory of the first moment when I arrived in Portland.
