Classroom Drop-Ins:
Elevate high-leverage, evidence-based instructional practices.
Foster a growth mindset regarding positive school and classroom climate and social-emotional learning (SEL).
Support adult SEL by improving positive administrator-educator relationships; building positive interactions; and enhancing trust and understanding.
Lead to direct discovery of classroom practices and culture.
Set the foundation for coaching and implementation of SEL practices by initiating data and systems for implementation support.
Classroom Drop-Ins are brief classroom visits by an administrator, which:
Are non-evaluative, relationship-building opportunities that provide support for educators.
De-identify all educator names.
Measure key high-leverage classroom SEL practices and markers of student engagement (i.e., praise to correction statements, active engagement opportunities).
Take 5 minutes per classroom to complete, including leaving a brief, positive note for the educator.
Can be completed via paper-pencil or electronically.
Are automatically summarized using a data dashboard to provide immediate, ongoing, and personalized feedback emailed regularly to the administrator.
Feedback from administrators and best practices in classroom drop-in systems support that success is most likely when Classroom Drop-Ins are contextualized to your district/school values and embedded within ongoing training and consultation.
Training and consultation includes:
Setting up a Classroom Drop-In form contextualized for your school or district
Providing web-based training modules for administrators to learn how to complete the Drop-In
A personalized data dashboard to visualize your results
Consultation in the use of your data for feedback and data-driven decision-making
The Core Classroom Drop-In items were selected due to their empirical research base, ability to be observable and measurable within a short time frame (e.g., 5 min), and having some quantifiable benchmarks for implementation.
