Textbook Readings

Attached to this page are the first five chapters of The American Pageant. Also attached are strongly suggested guided reading notes.

Past AP students have stated that the thorough completion of these guided reading notes was a strong component of their eventual success.

It is also strongly recommended that you complete your notes by hand on paper. Handwritten notes are strongly correlated with successful retention of information as they encourage muscle and visual memory development. Additionally, handwritten notes encourage the distillment of otherwise overwhelming information.

Note: As of Fall 2025, we will be transitioning to the 18th edition of The American Pageant. We are working on acquiring updated chapter PDFs and chapter guides and will update the page when we have them!
