feast of

CHRIST THE KING

On the 20th of November, 2022, the solemnity of Christ the King was celebrated in Nigeria. This is a special day in the Church's calendar where we come out in songs and dancing to publicly proclaim Christ as the King of the Universe. There is usually a procession around the church's environs. Let's look at a brief history of this feast...

The feast of Christ the King was instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1925. It holds on the last Sunday of the liturgical year (which wasn't always the case). In his encyclical Quas Primas, Pope Piux XI explained the imapct of this feast on the laity, stating:

“The faithful, moreover, by meditating upon these truths, will gain much strength and courage, enabling them to form their lives after the true Christian ideal. If to Christ our Lord is given all power in heaven and on earth; if all men, purchased by his precious blood, are by a new right subjected to his dominion; if this power embraces all men, it must be clear that not one of our faculties is exempt from his empire. He must reign in our minds, which should assent with perfect submission and firm belief to revealed truths and to the doctrines of Christ."

It was a fantastic celebration at the PAU Chaplaincy. See pictures below....
