New Athletes Interested in Water Polo

If you are interested in or curious about joining water polo, you will need to attend at least five pre-season practices. Pre-season practices will teach the following skills necessary for playing the game.
Swimming
Treading
Throwing a water polo ball
Shooting a goal
Basic rules of the game
Each pre-season practice will integrate the teaching of these skills, but the earliest practices in the pre-season will focus most heavily on beginner skills.
Summer 2023 Water Polo Pre-Season Schedule
June
DRYLAND training.
7-8 AM, Room 801
Athletes will learn the basic movements for throwing and catching a water polo ball, how to tread water, and the rules of the game.
June
Pool training
7-8 am Monday - Thursday
Arrive at least 15 minutes before practice time to get dressed and stretch out
Location: Patterson Aquatic Center
Water Polo Equipment for Athletes
Students participating in the sport will need the following:
Towel
bathing suit*
goggles
swim cap (if hair falls below eyebrows)
sunscreen (apply at LEAST 10 min prior to entering water), water bottle
Helpful but not necessary items include:
Athletic bag
Stats journal
Athlete's own water polo ball (size 4 = girls, size 5 = boys)
stretchy exercise bands
mouthguard (especially if athlete has braces)
Protein shake and shaker bottle
*Girls - suits should cross in the back to ensure the suit stays in place. Boys - jammers or speedos are preferred
