ABOUT US

 YOUTH E-COALITION MISSION

OUR MISSION

The original district goal, based on state requirements, was to reduce waste by 70% by 2021, this goal was met in 2019! The district formed a team to meet this goal, known as the Green Initiative, and has been working to form teams within ELP for 5 years now.

Our mission is to empower the community to proactively reduce our carbon footprint and participate in impactful environmental initiatives. Through education, advocacy, and action, we aim to foster a sustainable future for our community. We are dedicated to the preservation and protection of our environment for the benefit of future generations.

OUR STANDARDS

Our standards consist of

Recycling, waste management, reducing pollution, wildlife, healthy food choices, and gardening our own fruits and vegetables straight from our gardens to our lunch plates!

HOW WE ARE DOING THIS

Our Youth E-Coalition Team consists of program leaders in collaboration with our program students. What we do is create a leadership group at all of our expanded learning sites, which consists of 5–10 student leaders and a program leader. Monthly activities are created with a general thread of making better choices in terms of foods we eat, reducing waist circumference, gardening, and basically all around "going green.".

5th - 6th grade students are chosen to be our youth leaders in Y.E.C. The 5–10 students who are chosen will collaborate with the Y.E.C Team Leader at there site to create a "Green Activity" that all children in the Expanded Learning Program can participate in. Our Youth Leaders are chosen to be mentors to our younger students as they too are the future leaders of tomorrow, and too also show them what it means to be GREEN!
