Dear Students and Parents,
Thank you for your patience during this difficult time. Both your teachers miss you and have your safety as our number one priority. We have been sharing some activities and practice in our regular Google Classrooms that were optional. It has been great to connect with many of you! As you most likely know, as we move forward we will be presenting new instruction on the last few skills for 6th grade. We want to share some information with you on what this will look like so you will know exactly what to expect.
Assignments and information will be posted in the new Google Classroom we set up. This classroom is called 6th Grade Virtual Fun. We felt it would be much easier for you to find all your assignments in one place. Remember to look through the first page(Stream) as soon as you log in for daily messages. Then you will scroll down to each section to check for your assignments You will find assignments for Science and Math in the section called “Mrs.Tyndall’s Corner.” English and Social Studies assignments will be posted in “Mrs. Sirt’s Corner.” Assignments will labeled by date and should be completed in the order they are assigned. You can work ahead some if choose to do so, but don’t let yourself get overwhelmed. Assignments are broken down into chunks because your at home learning is very different than what you would be doing in the classroom. You are not expected to work all day on school work. You should plan to work about 20 or 30 minutes on each subject. That would be no more than 2 hours in a day. Most assignments will take about 20 minutes to complete.
The assignments will be presented in several ways. The type of assignment will depend on the content. Examples of the types of tasks are listed below:
Watch a video explaining a new concept
Read a set of notes or a passage and answer questions
Complete practice questions in Google forms, Powertest or on paper
Complete practice or lessons in IXL or Study Island
In some instances supplemental optional materials may also be provided
Lessons will be uploaded into Google Classroom. Some lessons will be completed in one day, but others may need to be completed over the course of several days. For example, you may have an assignment to read in Study Island with questions to answer. If the passage is long, you would have several days to complete the assignment. You may turn in any assignment when it is finished, however, all assignments will be due by 3:00 on Friday of the week they are assigned.
Assignments will be reviewed and grades will be posted based on completion. You must complete at least 70% of the assignment to receive credit. Assessment grades will be recorded if the score is 75% or above. If the score is below 75%, that skill will be listed for remediation at the beginning of next year. Remember the work we are doing now is to make sure you are ready for next year and to improve your end of year grade. Late assignments will not be graded or recorded.
Students without internet will be provided with paper packets. The assignments will be similar in content, but may not have the exact same material. These packets will be available for pick up at Hardin Reynolds on April 14. The packets will be divided into sections by week and can be returned as each week is completed.
